Four large oak trees in the front yard of the Mathias family home, just behind the Four Oaks Farm Country Store, gave us our name. Like those trees, our family business has stood strong since 1929, weathering the storms of change. With deep roots in Lexington, South Carolina, and five generations of family and dedicated employees behind it, we’ve grown stronger every year. Timeline - The History of Four Oaks Farm

The 1930s...

F.T. Mathias, Sr. owns several stores in Lexington through the 1930s and early 1940s and runs a local farm. Since 1929, the Mathias family has run Four Oaks Farm in one form or another.

The 1940s & 1950s...

F.T. Mathias, Sr. and his sons operate several family businesses, including Four Oaks Farm, which specializes in registered Berkshire hogs, a breed prized for its high-quality pork.
Four Oaks becomes one of the nation’s most successful hog farms. Buyers travel from across the country for the farm’s annual auctions of registered Berkshires, and the 1958 sale catalog reports satisfied customers in 24 states and Cuba. Four Oaks Berkshires win top awards at state fairs and regional and national shows, and in 1959 the farm breeds and exhibits the National Champion Berkshire Boar.
In the late 1950s, the family begins curing hams and bacon and making pure pork sausage for sale to the public. F.T. Mathias & Sons also runs a feed and seed store, and the farm expands into row crops and fresh vegetables as the next generation grows up in the business.

The 1960s...

After F.T. Mathias, Sr. passes in 1960, his sons carry on the family farm and businesses. Demand grows for the farm’s hams, bacon, sausage and fresh vegetables, all sold to the public at the feed store.

The 1970s...

In the early 1970s, the family turns one of the farm’s old barns into a country store, an outlet for the meats and vegetables raised on the farm.
As demand grows, the store adds products from neighboring farmers and much more.
Local businesses soon discover that the farm’s products make ideal holiday gifts for business associates, employees, friends and family. This is the beginning of the gift business that thrives at Four Oaks Farm today.
In January 1973, the family incorporates as Four Oaks Farm, Inc.

The 1980s & 1990s...

The family adds a wider variety of quality products to the store, expands its line of gift boxes, and begins reaching customers well beyond Lexington.

Today...

Four Oaks Farm, Inc. operates the Country Store and the packing and shipping warehouse behind it, sending gift boxes from Lexington to doorsteps across the country.
The third, fourth and fifth generations of the Mathias family, alongside a team of trusted employees, run the business with the same priorities it has held since 1929: quality and customer service.
